Gabon hosted this Wednesday the 9th extraordinary summit of heads of state of the Economic Community and Central African States (ECCAS). The summit marked Ali Bongo's return to the international diplomatic scene, a year after a stroke.
She was the star of the summit. Ali Bongo was applauded when he entered the room. His actions were scrutinized by delegates from all the member countries of ECCAS, because only a year ago, the news on the state of health of the Gabonese number one was alarming.
Ali Bongo himself seemed to be invigorated by the presence at his side of his counterparts from the DRC, Chad, the Central African Republic and Sao Tome and Principe. For the first time since his stroke, he read a speech to a large audience.

At the end of the summit, Ali Bongo - like his counterparts - signed the documents for the new ECCAS, which will boost integration in Central Africa. He remains president of the institution during the first half of 2020.
