It is noted that this year the number of co-sponsors of the resolution that Russia introduced to the UN General Assembly reached 62. 133 states voted for it. At the same time, the USA and Ukraine, as in previous years, opposed the document. Another 52 countries, including EU members, abstained from voting.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the widespread support for the Russian initiative confirms the importance of the struggle in modern conditions with the glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism, as well as the preservation of the historical memory of the peoples about the lessons of the Second World War, which brought untold suffering to humanity.

“Against this background, the position of states that do not support the resolution allegedly under the pretext of concern for freedom of expression is extremely regrettable,” the foreign ministry said.

Earlier, the UN General Assembly adopted a Russian resolution to combat the glorification of Nazism.
