The center called the managers, officials and supervisors of the truck drivers administration to manage the drivers' working hours, stressing that "this matter is an important matter that requires urgent treatment, because these vehicles contribute to a large percentage of traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi roads."

The center stressed that lack of sleep is one of the most common causes of truck accidents in the country, noting that sleep, or drowsiness, while driving negatively affects the speed of the driver's reaction to the dangers he may face on the road, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and accidents.

He pointed out that he issued the guide, the content of which applies to both heavy and light cargo transport vehicles, with the aim of directing managers from users of transport services, to inform them of their role in combating driver fatigue with companies supplying the service, stressing the need for supervisors of truckers to familiarize themselves with the applicable laws The effect, which deals with the hours and driving hours of truck drivers, including the GCC Law on Safety Requirements for Land Transport, and the country's federal labor law regarding the regulation of labor relations.

The Center stressed that the Federal Traffic Law stipulates that it is illegal for drivers to drive their vehicles while they are under the influence of exhaustion, pointing out that the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport intends to conduct a number of researches and take consultations in regards to determining the maximum working hours of drivers, which are expected to come under penalty of law. He explained that the Department of Transport conducted a survey, a while ago, of the opinions of 517 drivers on driver fatigue and working hours, and concluded that more than 45% of them confirmed that they work more than 10 hours a day, which significantly increases the risk of accidents resulting from driving under Fatigue effect.

He stated that there is a disparity in safety standards and a difference in the extent of the change required to raise the level of safety between companies, which necessitates intervention in order to raise the level of safety standards in the sector, stressing that the department obligated companies to provide details about the transportation manager responsible for drivers, and the number of vehicles they occupy, And the details of the fleet of goods transport vehicles, if they want to obtain a no-objection certificate from the department.

She emphasized that this procedure represented a significant change compared to the procedures and conditions followed in previous years, related to improving safety standards in the road freight transport sector, and bringing the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in line with best practices and international standards in this field.

And recent data on analyzing the behavior of drivers, issued by the Emirates Driving Company, revealed that four reasons are common between accidents of trucks and light vehicles, which are excessive speed without taking into account the road, not leaving enough distance, wrong overtaking, and neglecting vehicle maintenance, especially the validity of the tires.
