Fatmir Seremeti has been visually impaired for a long time and, moreover, he recently suffered an eye accident which forced an operation. He now has almost no vision left at all.

It was on a return visit to the eye reception at Skåne University Hospital in Lund that he ended up in front of the check-in screen.

He has described the incident on social media and the reactions have been many.

- You see the tragicomic and that was the idea. And the most tragic thing is that I have worked as an Ombudsman for the Visually Impaired National Federation, SRF. And when they were to introduce the new check-in screens, we had to comment. We just pointed out that this is completely insane. And now these are still available at lots of eye receptions throughout the country.

Staffed reception

Now it should be pointed out that there is also a staffed reception at the reception.

- Well, I could go straight to the reception, but then I have to go through a waiting room, find a closed door and take it through it. Then I need help from patients on site, if there are any. This removes our independence and independence.

How do you want it to be?

- If you only had speech synthesis, it would have worked. That technology exists, we have pointed out. And if you ask us, you have to listen to what we answer, he says.

A complement

Operations manager at the eye reception at Sus, Sten Kjellström, agrees with the criticism.

- Now these machines are not the eye reception, it is Region Skåne that set them up at all the receptions. The idea is that they should be a complement to the staffed reception so that the staff can spend more time on the patients, he says.

- But I also think they are flawed. There could be sounds and they are not easy to understand either. But this is the first generation and the machines will be revised, says Sten Kjellström.

Do you know if there is any change going on?

- What is happening now is that because information is missing on the screen, you supplement them with support tags. Some of them look like Christmas trees and it will not be so easy to understand.
