While more than 210,000 women are victims of physical or sexual violence from their partner each year, Parliament adopted definitively on Wednesday, by a final vote in the Senate, the anti-approximation bracelet (BAR), a device intended to ward off violent spouses and ex-spouses.

This device is the flagship measure of the bill "act against violence within the family", voted unanimously by the upper house, after the National Assembly which already voted almost last week -unanimité.

The LR law proposal on conjugal violence generalizes the BAR, to geolocate and keep violent spouses and ex-spouses at a distance by triggering a signal, with a perimeter of removal set by a judge. This device has never been tested in the field in France, despite several votes in favor of experiments.

The bracelet can be put in place both in criminal and civil matters, as a preventive measure, as part of a protection order, subject to the consent of the violent spouse.

This bracelet exists especially in Spain where feminicides have dropped significantly. The number of feminicides in France this year exceeded that recorded in 2018 by the government with 122 confirmed cases, according to an AFP count.
