December 17, 2019On WhatsApp a critical vulnerability has been identified whereby a single attacker can deliver, in a group chat, a "destructive message" that produces a rapid and complete crash of the entire app for all members. The point is made known by the researchers at Check Point, who discovered the flaw and notified the chat owned by Facebook.

The crash of the app would be so serious - IT security experts explain - that users would be forced to uninstall and reinstall it in order to return to using WhatsApp normally. Furthermore, the user would no longer be able to re-enter the group chat, which would lead to the loss of all the history.

The security flaw, however, has already been corrected. In fact, CheckPoint reports having notified WhatsApp in late August, and in mid-September the company released an update of the app that resolves the vulnerability. Installing the update, therefore, there is no risk of running into the problem.
