On Monday evening, Skurup's municipal council made a decision to approve the Swedish Democratic motion for a ban on the ban, reports Ystads Allehanda.

In the motion, which has now been voted on, according to the newspaper, a ban is proposed for "headscarves, burka, niqab and other garments intended to hide students and staff".

The number of pupils affected by the ban is unclear - as well as whether or not a foul ban is really compatible with Swedish legislation. When the National Agency for Education considered the matter in 2012, the authority concluded that it is not permissible or compatible with the religious freedom and the Discrimination Act to introduce general prohibitions on veil in the school.
