The woman worked for the user for a period of about 20 years ago. She quit but tells during the trial that despite this, she often talked to the patient's parents for several years and that they began to socialize as friends.

- We had a lot of contact, says the personal assistant.

A few years ago, the woman started working for the user again via a private healthcare company. After some time, the parent became ill and the personal assistant tells her that she also helped the parent in addition to her job.

"Common with friendship"

Before the parent passed away, the woman received property and cash from her parent worth SEK 11.6 million, which the prosecutor believes is criminal because she was working in the family at the same time.

- It is common that as a personal assistant in a family you get friendship with those who are part of the family, but that does not help, says Martin Bresman, Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the National Corruption Office.

During the trial, the prosecutor presented three letters of gift that the woman received, one relating to real estate and two relating to cash. The personal assistant admits that she has received the gifts but that it was the parent's will.

- I've always said I don't want anything. But then X got very angry and said I was ungrateful, because X said I was like a daughter.

May involve imprisonment

According to the woman's lawyer Sofia Jacobsson, the taking of the gifts is not criminal because the personal assistant and the parent had a friendly relationship.

- She believes that the gift has nothing to do with the job, but it is for the very close relationship they have had, says Sofia Jacobsson.

Since the value of the gifts amounts to 11.6 million, the crime is considered to be serious, which could mean imprisonment.

Three other employees at the company are also prosecuted for receiving SEK 10,000-15,000 in cash. All admit that they have received the money but deny the crime.
