Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the talks between Saudi Arabia and Qatar to resolve the two-year-old dispute represent a good development that is in the interest of the entire Gulf region.

In response to a question in the Doha forum whether the contact between Doha and Riyadh recently was in the interest of the region, Zarif said, "Of course, it is."

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt cut diplomatic and commercial ties with Qatar in June 2017, accusing them of supporting terrorism and an alliance with Iran, and Doha denies the accusations and accuses its neighbors of trying to undermine its sovereignty.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani participated in the annual Gulf Cooperation Council summit held in Saudi Arabia last Tuesday, in the largest Qatari representation at the summit since 2017.

Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul-Rahman Al-Thani said at the Doha Forum the day before yesterday, Saturday that slight progress had been made in order to resolve the bitter dispute.

The Qatari Foreign Minister met briefly with his Iranian counterpart, and joined the attendees during the latter's speech at the forum.
