It is noted that the Supreme Court dismissed the cassation appeal of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine on renaming the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Also, the Armed Forces of Ukraine agreed with the position of the two previous courts to ban Ukrainian departments from canceling registration actions against 267 Ukrainian religious organizations.

On December 22, 2018, the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the law on renaming the UOC. The text of the law said that the UOC would have to indicate in its name the affiliation with the “aggressor state”.

The UOC said that they would dispute the demand from the authorities for the forced renaming.
