The goalkeeper of the Nancy football club (Ligue 2), Baptiste Valette, 27, was indicted for the rape, which he disputes, of a young woman on Saturday night after leaving a nightclub, announced on Monday the public prosecutor of Nancy.

In custody since Sunday morning, the holder of the ASNL titular was indicted for "rape by person in a state of drunkenness" and released "under judicial supervision", said François Pérain in a statement.

Baptiste Valette "admitted (...) having had sexual intercourse with the complainant" but said that he was "consented", added the magistrate.

"AS Nancy Lorraine takes note of the end of police custody of player Baptiste Valette and of his placement under judicial supervision", said on its website the club, which had declared the camera for training the week after the announcement of the custody of its porter.

The ASNL "has full confidence in the justice system to shed light on the serious accusations brought against it", added the club in a terse statement.

Contacted by AFP, a spokesman for the club, current 9th in L2, did not wish to make more comments.

A young girl born in 2001 affirmed "to have been victim of a rape at the exit of a discotheque of the center of Nancy in the night from Saturday to Sunday", had explained Sunday to AFP François Pérain.

Placed in police custody, the player could not be heard Sunday by the investigators because of his drunkenness, requiring the extension of his police custody, also said the prosecutor.

Born in Sète (Hérault) in September 1992, Baptiste Valette has been evolving since this summer in the Lorraine club, after playing in Nîmes (L1), from 2017 to 2019, and in Belgium, at the Excelsior Virton, from 2015 to 2017 .
