It is reported by the Hindustan Times.

According to the publication, the University of Jamia Millia Islamia became the epicenter of the unrest in the city, where mainly Muslim students study. The last three days there have been peaceful demonstrations, which eventually grew into clashes with the police.

It is specified that during clashes with the police, the protesters burned four buses and two police cars. Law enforcement officials, for their part, used truncheons and tear gas.

According to the newspaper, the reason for the riots was the previously adopted amendments to the law, providing for the possibility of simplified acquisition of Indian citizenship by non-Muslims from neighboring countries of South Asia: Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, if they faced harassment in their homeland. Indian Muslims consider these amendments to be discriminatory on religious grounds.

Earlier in France, a nationwide strike turned into riots and clashes with the police.
