Principal Else-Marie Hallqvist, who succeeded in reversing the results at Nytorpsskolan, in just over a year, would like the state to now intervene and take on a much greater responsibility for schools in particularly vulnerable areas. But the minister balls back to the municipalities.

- It is the municipality that is responsible for ensuring that most resources go where the needs are greatest. This is clearly stated in the School Act and it is also something for which they receive government grants, says Anna Ekström (S).

Prominent headmaster

When SVT West noticed the headmaster's work in a feature a week ago, the minister did not post any interview but now she has gone out on social media and told her to visit Nytorps school after the turn of the year. But she does not see a targeted government grant for schools that need to get back on their feet.

- In that case, it is a new way of managing the school. Today, the responsibility is to direct resources to our municipalities. Last mandate period, we raised the state money by as much as SEK 13 billion, says Anna Ekström (S).

Anna Ekström also refers to the project “Collaboration for the best school” where the National Agency for Education directs resources to selected schools and preschools.
