December 15 in Russia recall the journalists who died in the performance of professional duties. The Union of Journalists of the Russian Federation established the date after, in September 1991, when covering the conflict in Yugoslavia, Soviet television correspondent Viktor Nogin and cameraman Gennady Kurinnoy were killed. Since then, every year in mid-December, evenings have been held throughout the country in memory of media workers who sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom of speech.
