Like every month, a rally is organized this December 16 in Malta by citizens asking for the truth about the assassination on October 16, 2017 of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. She was killed by the explosion of her car bomb while investigating corruption cases at the highest level.

This Monday's rally will take place when Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat recently announced that he would resign in January and when an entrepreneur - close to the Prime Minister - was recently charged with "complicity" in the affair. Relatives of Daphne Caruana remain mobilized, they believe that things are not progressing fast enough.

" The demand does not change, people continue to demand justice, because even after the recent events, we still have not obtained it and the file is far from being closed, we do not yet know the whole truth, says Corinne Vella, the sister of the murdered journalist. The presence of the Prime Minister in his office remains an obstacle to justice. And the fact that his ex-chief of staff Keith Schembri is not being prosecuted is also a great cause for concern. "

Joseph Muscat is accused by the journalist's family, by the opposition as well as by civic movements of having intervened to protect Keith Schembri, implicated in the case. Keith Schembri, who is named as the true sponsor of the murder of Daphne Caruana and whose name appeared in the journalist's investigations, resigned last week.

" We want justice to be completely done for Daphne," adds Corinne Vella. This concerns all those involved in her murder and all those she has one day exposed. And it is very important that investigators go up the chain of command and pull the thread of evidence, that they reach everyone involved. And it still seems to be problematic. "

MEPs "concerned about the integrity of the investigation"

Friday was the first hearing in Valletta of an independent investigation ordered in September, after two years of pressing requests from the family, by the government. The investigative journalist was in a state of fear, her family told the court. Three men considered to be simple executors, arrested shortly after the murder, are on trial, but a police investigation is still underway to find the sponsor (s).

The new European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, met on Friday with several members of the committee of European parliamentarians sent on mission to Malta to see more clearly about the investigation. The latter declared themselves "worried" about the Maltese judicial investigation, deeming the rapid resignation of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat preferable.
