China has suspended additional tariffs on U.S. products due to come into force on Sunday after Beijing and Washington announced Friday a truce in their trade war.

China suspends entry into force of 10% and 5% taxes on certain US imports, and "continues to suspend additional taxes on US-made cars and parts," the Chinese ministry said on Sunday finances.

This measure follows the cancellation by US President Donald Trump of new taxes announced on Chinese products, as part of the preliminary agreement between the two countries.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Friday that it has reached a preliminary agreement with the United States which provides for the gradual withdrawal of customs duties and the protection of intellectual property rights.

The two sides have yet to sign the agreement, a major breakthrough in the 21-month clash between the two largest economies in the world.

In addition to existing tariffs, Trump previously threatened to impose a 15% tax on some 160 billion Chinese exports on Sunday, including electronics and clothing.

China had announced it would respond with a 25% tax on U.S. cars and a 5% tax on auto parts - taxes that were suspended earlier in 2019 in a gesture of goodwill.
