“The actions of the Senate are historical and they are likely to lead to increased tension between the US and Turkey. The genocide officially recognizes the systematic killings of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923, ”the publication said.
In October, the US House of Representatives voted in favor of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
Later, the Turkish Foreign Ministry in connection with the adoption of the document called the American ambassador to Ankara, David Satterfield.
The Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire is recognized by 23 countries, as well as by the European Parliament and the World Council of Churches.
