A total of around 42 million tonnes were released during the year. This corresponds to a decrease of 27 percent compared with 1990.

“Emissions have decreased by almost two per cent between 2017 and 2018 and this is far from being the long-term climate target. To reach net zero, an average reduction rate of 5-8 per cent is needed until 2045, ”says Anna-Karin Nyström, head of the climate target unit at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, according to a press release.
