12 December 2019The former deputy prime minister and former holder of the Interior Ministry Matteo Salvini is under investigation for abuse of office by the Rome prosecutor, who has sent the documents to the court of ministers. The Corriere della Sera and the daily newspaper wrote it.

The accusation refers to 35 State flights already considered illegitimate by the Court of Auditors, which nevertheless filed the file that it had opened - transmitting the documents to the Rome public prosecutor's office - without finding any damage to revenue.

The Court of Auditors took an interest in the matter after an investigation by Repubblica into the combination of many institutional meetings of Salvini around Italy with rallies or other party events in the same area. Transfers carried out on board aircraft supplied to the police or fire brigade.

The use of those aircraft was considered illegitimate by the accounting judges because the police and fire brigades are reserved for the performance of institutional or training tasks and not for the so-called State flights, for which another regulation applies.
