Israeli authorities discuss holding third parliamentary elections

Israeli parties could not agree on the formation of a coalition government on time. The country is to hold the third parliamentary election.

The Knesset is currently discussing the March 2, 2020 elections, writes The Jerusalem Post. The “automatic” date, however, provides for the March 10 elections, on this day the Jewish holiday of Purim is celebrated.

Earlier, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin gave Knesset Speaker Julius Edelstein 21 days to form a government after Netanyahu and Kahol-Lavan party leader Beni Ganz were unable to form a coalition.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed electing the head of government by direct vote to avoid the third in a year parliamentary elections.
