"The former president was planning a violent seizure of power, coupled with riots and looting," the TASS report quoted as saying.

According to the State Commission, Atambaev fomented unrest, as he realized "the inevitability of punishment for his deliberate criminal actions during the presidential term."

“Initially, it was planned to organize an armed rebuff to law enforcement officials ... with possible casualties ... who were supposed to mobilize citizens to speak out against the authorities,” the state commission concluded.

Atambayev was detained on August 8 during an assault on his residence by security forces.

The former head of Kyrgyzstan is suspected of involvement in five crimes.
