If it continues as today, 275 billion tax crowns will end up in the wrong pockets between 2018 and 2030. Money from the Social Insurance Agency, CSN, the Swedish Employment Agency, the Swedish Migration Agency and the Pension Authority. About half of the suspects are due to deliberate contribution fraud, the rest by mistake. This has been calculated by the delegation for correct payments from the welfare systems. This calculation has already been questioned, but it is clear that it is about big money.

"Ordinary people hit"

The delegation will present its final report to Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) on Thursday, December 12. She has previously signaled that this area is a priority for the government, including at a press conference in September this year:

“Any violation of our welfare and tax systems damages confidence in the general welfare. Ordinary people around the country need a functioning well-being and a functioning society for their everyday lives and are thus affected by the cheating, ”she said.

AI should reduce waste

SVT News has already been able to access a draft of the report. In order to reduce the welfare gap, the delegation proposes that the relevant authorities should:

  • Make better use of the potential of digitalisation and artificial intelligence - for example through more automatic controls and coordination of information with the authorities.
  • Get clearer goals about incorrect payments.
  • Better interaction with each other.
  • Establish a Council for correct payments consisting of the heads of the relevant authorities and the budget secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
