19 April 2019 "It is an honor for me to be here today, you are many and you must be proud of yourself". This is the greeting of the young Greta Thunberg to the boys present at Piazza del Popolo, in Rome for the event to defend the climate. "We can only live once and have lied to us, they gave us false hopes for our future that was sold," said Greta. "Humanity is at a crossroads and we must decide which path to take. We are here because we have decided what the path is and we wait for others to follow our example", he continued. "We are not the ones who created this crisis, they give us back dreams and hopes. We are the ones who make the difference, if no one else does, we will do it. They say we are wasting time, we say we change the world. "We have enough lies and broken promises. We want to wake the adults up," the young Swede reiterated. "In the last 6 months millions of school children have gone on strike but nothing has changed, in fact the emissions continue to grow and there is no political change anywhere. The basic problem - the girl continued - is that nothing is done for stop the ecological catastrophe. We must prepare, we must continue for a long time our struggle is not a matter of weeks or months, but it will take years ".

Alice: glad to have met Greta
"I'm glad that Greta is in Italy, I hope you come back. I agree with you, I'm here to support you." This is the message that Alice, a 9-year-old Roman girl, launched in English from the stage of the climate strike in Piazza del Popolo. Alice arrived at the demonstration on foot together with Greta Thunberg. "I am happy to have met her," Alice told the press later. "My desire - he added - is that by the end of the year everyone is aware of the climate emergency".

Thousands of young people were in Piazza del Popolo in Rome (3,500 according to the police station, about 10,000 for the organizers) for the #FridaysforFuture event with Greta Thunberg; a protest against climate change that takes place in the year, 2019, which ranks third among the hottest on the planet, with an average first quarter temperature on the surface of the Earth and oceans higher than 0.90 degrees compared to twentieth century media (Noaa database, the National Climatic Data Center). Only the first quarter of 2016 and that of 2017 had been warmer since surveys began in 1880 confirming the tendency for the planet to overheat. An anomaly that is felt even in Italy where the minimum temperatures were 0.76 degrees above average during the quarter, according to Coldiretti elaborations on Isac Cnr data.

The ranking of the hottest whole years along the Peninsula in the last two centuries is moreover concentrated in the last period and includes in order - specifies the association - also in the order 2018, 2015, 2014 and 2003. The repetition of extreme events have cost Italian agriculture over 14 billion euros in a decade between losses in national agricultural production and damage to structures and infrastructure in the countryside. On the stage, set up in the square, a large banner where it says: "There is no more time". In the background the song the soundtrack of the day, performed by Andrea Satta dei Tetes de Bois and inspired by the words of Greta Thunberg. In the piazza, together with many youngsters, is also the Dior domestic piglet. "We are here - the owner said - to try to raise public awareness also on the protection of animals, including piglets".

Many signs that young people have made for the occasion: from "Save out planet" to "Climate change = Human extinction", passing through "The world is not a bank but we must save it anyway" and "We are treating this Planet as if we had another to go to ".
