Swirls of smoke, cars, burnt stalls, collapsed houses: The powerful blast rocked the neighborhood of the US Bagram military base around 6am local time. Several houses were destroyed. Most of the victims are civilians.

At least one car bomb exploded according to local authorities, followed by heavy firefights from a hospital under construction in which several attackers had been hiding to launch their assault. The latter have not managed to penetrate the military precinct, that's what security sources say. The Taliban are very present in this area close to the districts of Surobi and Tagab.

The attack came as Taliban and Americans resumed talks in Doha a few days ago for a withdrawal of US troops. The talks were abruptly suspended by US President Donald Trump last September.
