According to him, of the recognized native speakers of the Russian language since May 2014, more than 80 thousand applicants for citizenship, about 47 thousand are Ukrainians, more than 800 are Belarusians.

He noted that the initiative will help optimize admission to Russian citizenship for more than 172 thousand Ukrainians and about 32 thousand Belarusians who permanently reside in Russia on the basis of a residence permit and are entitled to apply for citizenship.

Earlier, the head of the self-proclaimed DPR Denis Pushilin said that as of December 2019, over 51 thousand Russian passports were issued in the DPR.

On December 9, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Vladimir Kolokoltsev said that since April 2019, 125 thousand residents of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR received Russian citizenship.
