Patients have suffered from facial fractures, infections and severe breathing problems. Some have had small breathing holes like rice grains.

The Inspection for Healthcare and Care, IVO, has received at least 66 reports of injuries only for the plastic surgeon's nose operations.

Doctors sounded alarm

In the summer of 2017, SVT News was able to reveal that the surgeon has been known to the investigating authorities for ten years. But even though the doctor had been reported numerous times, the IVO closed several reports without investigating them.

After several doctors made alarms about the surgeon, IVO initiated a major examination. It led the authority to request that the Health Board's responsibility committee, HSAN, revoke the doctor's identification.

Several tours

The report was based on twelve patient cases that had undergone nasal plastic surgery at the doctor.

HSAN decided that the doctor's credentials should be revoked because of gross incompetence in the profession.

The doctor appealed against HSAN's decision to the Stockholm Administrative Court, which held that the doctor had not been grossly unskilled in his professional practice, but merely unskilled.

The administrative court decided that the revocation of medical certificates would be canceled and that the doctor would instead receive a three-year probationary period.

Roughly unskilled

The IVO appealed and on Tuesday, the District Court found that the surgeon was grossly unskilled in his professional practice.

- We have made an overall assessment of the twelve cases in which the doctor performed surgeries. Based on the extensive medical evidence available, we have concluded that the doctor's credentials should be revoked, says the Pernilla Flank Chamber of Justice.

IVO welcomes the judgment which the Authority believes will benefit patient safety.

"IVO's assessment was that the doctor posed a great danger to patient safety, which the Court of Appeal has now also established," says Linda Almqvist, chief legal officer at IVO.
