More than 400 kilometers of traffic jams this Tuesday morning December 10 in Île-de-France and transport always paralyzed. The movement against pension reform continues with a day of interprofessional strike. To the old of the announcement of the detail of the reform by Édouard Philippe, the unions want to put the pressure on the government.

The Prime Minister will present this Wednesday, December 11 the precise outline of the pension reform project. On the eve of this major meeting with the French, opponents of the reform remain mobilized on Tuesday. On the sixth day of the strike, they hope to gather widely to show their determination to the government.

Strike air traffic controllers forced, Air France had to cancel 25% of domestic flights and 10% of medium-haul. At the SNCF, 20% of TGVs run. The reception of children in schools and nurseries also promises to be disturbed. According to the CGT, seven of the eight French refineries are blocked and strikes were triggered on power generation sites. And according to AFP, in Marseilles, dockers on strike block two doors to access the Grand Seaport.

Not easy to go to work in Île-de-France

The first concerned by the strikes are the Parisians. Nine metro lines are closed and only a quarter of the buses run. Travel by train or public transit is therefore difficult with scenes of jostling and major difficulties in the RER and commuter trains, especially at rush hour.

This has complicated the task of travelers like Luc met this morning by RFI. It must reach the northern suburbs and the southern suburbs of Paris, with three different RERs. He will, surely, still have to go home today.

Malika, who comes from the northern suburbs, must join La Défense, in the west of Paris. She decided to opt for the RER, she says at the microphone of RFI, because this Monday, when she tried to go by bus, it took three hours to go and return. She is much more optimistic today.

Bus traffic has improved slightly, despite the blocking of deposits by strikers. Melanie and Fabien, deprived of the metro since last Thursday, assure RFI not to be angry with the railwaymen. But they do not validate the method.

It blocks everyone to go to work and there it also makes us lose money. So if we do not go, or you put a RTT, but when we do not have, we must go ...

The point of view of public transport users 10/12/2019 - by David Baché

Other users of public transport, Axel, Mathilde and François are also galley to go to work. But they support the railway strikers: " No, no, I do not blame them, because I am young and it concerns me too. I understand them, they are absolutely right . "

New day of mobilization envisaged

The event scheduled for December 10th will leave at 1:30 pm from Les Invalides to Denfert-Rochereau. The unions CGT, FO, FSU, Solidaires and several youth organizations hope to make a show of force. The railway workers, in the front line against the pension reform, would like the other professions to mobilize with them.

This is also the opinion of Michel Beaugas, Force Ouvrière; very determined against reform. It encourages all French employees to mobilize because " it is not just the special schemes that are involved but the general scheme and the pension code of civil servants. So 18 million employees and 6 million civil servants are concerned and will eventually see their retirement fall . "

The Inter Union meets Tuesday night to decide on the follow-up to the movement. Already, a new day of action is envisaged Thursday, December 12th.
