For the state as a whole, the Employment Service sees that more people will get jobs in the next two years, but at a slower pace, which results in increased unemployment. In 2020, unemployment is expected to rise from 6.8 to 7.2 percent.

1 700 more people in unemployment

Even in Gävleborg, unemployment will increase. In 2019, 9.8 percent are unemployed, next year it is expected to be 10.2, which corresponds to 1,700 people.

According to the survey, the proportion of companies in the county that plans to increase their workforce is declining, and in the industry expectation is the lowest in six years.

The Employment Service believes that the biggest challenges in Gävleborg are to counteract the shortage of educated labor, improve the ability of overseas Europeans to work, and reduce the number of long-term unemployed.
