The demonstration of the metalworkers to coincide with the strike proclaimed by the workers of ArcelorMittal (formerly Ilva) starts in Rome at Piazza Santi Apostoli. Some protesters headed for the sit-in set off firecrackers in and out of the Colosseum subway station.

Landini: we will fill Rome
"Tomorrow we will fill Rome," said the general secretary of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, yesterday. "We trust that there will be a few thousand workers at Ilva's facilities. A very strong participation and determination". "We will be in the streets in Rome to ask for a serious industrial policy, investments, to open the sites - the Secretary General of CISL, Annamaria Furlan wrote on twitter - to support the South. Arcelor Mittal must respect the workers of the former Ilva and the community of Taranto. The agreements are not waste paper ".

More than 1,000 workers from Taranto
Over 1000 workers of the former Ilva and the induced, together with the delegates of Fim, Fiom and Uilm, left from Taranto last night with about twenty buses to reach Rome for the national demonstration #futuroallavoro organized by Cgil, Cisl and Uil. In Rome also workers from Genoa, Novi Ligure and Racconigi, all lined up for the no to the redundancies declared by the multinational steel that in November 2018 took over from Ilva in extraordinary administration in managing the group. In Taranto, between the iron and steel and contractors, the strike started at 11pm yesterday and will go on for 32 hours until 7 December.

Not only Mittal: thousands in Rome to put work back at the center
And today starts the week of mobilization of CGIL, CISL and UIL for work, with three national events in Piazza Santi Apostoli in Rome scheduled for today, Thursday 12 and Tuesday 17 December. This was stated by the general secretary of Fiom-CGIL, Francesca Re David, according to whom "thousands of workers will come from all over Italy to ask businesses and the government to put industry and work back at the center. This is a first moment of mobilization that unifies and brings together the main crises of the industry. We are one step away from industrial desertification, there is no more time to waste ".

160 open crisis tables
There are about 160 "industrial crisis tables open to the ministry of economic development. The crises are affecting all the metalworking sectors, from the appliance to the steel industry, from the automotive to the electronics, from the computer science to the installations". Ex Ilva, Whirlpool, Ast of Terni, former Alcoa, Wanbao, Jabil, Embraco, Bosch, Cnh Industrial, Blutec, Italian Bus Industry, Bekaert, Honeywell, Piaggio Aerospace are just some of the disputes that are present in Rome. "They are necessary - adds King David - public and private investments to set in motion old and new social safety nets, to be able to face the phase of industrial transition towards new models of eco-sustainable development, to stop the closure of factories and to be protagonists of the change, safeguarding the employment and improving working conditions through innovation ".
