The United Nations said in a report published on Monday to mark International Anti-Corruption Day, that the value of bribes around the world is one trillion dollars annually.

The United Nations stated that the value of the amounts stolen through corruption exceeds $ 2.5 trillion annually, and that this amount equals 5% of global GDP.

The United Nations Development Program notes that the value of losses due to corruption in developing countries is estimated to be ten times the total amounts of development assistance provided.

The UN believes that corruption is a serious crime that can undermine social and economic development in all societies, and that no country, region, or society is immune.

The Transparency Organization said in a statement early this year in conjunction with the issuance of the Corruption Perceptions Index 2018 report, that this year's report reveals the continuous failure of most countries to reduce corruption effectively and contribute to exacerbating the crisis of democracy in the world.

Since 2012, only 20 countries made progress in their grades of corruption perceptions index, including Estonia and Ivory Coast, while 16 countries recorded a noticeable decline, including Australia, Chile and Malta.

On October 31, 2003, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption and chose on December 9 of each year an International Day Against Corruption.
