About a month ago, about 25 Europeans fled from the al-Hol refugee camp in northeastern Syria. Some of these were Swedish women with children, but exactly how many are still unclear. The operation has been carefully planned with relatives who should have paid the smugglers, says a source with transparency to SVT.

The women's purpose with the escape should have been to try to get to Sweden. According to reports to SVT, one of the Swedish women must have succeeded in getting out and is still on the loose, while the others disappeared along the way. It is suspected that they may have been arrested by the Syrian army.

Offer from smugglers

Smugglers offer their services around the camps with IS prisoners. Relatives have told SVT that their daughters have been offered the opportunity to be smuggled out for a cost of up to $ 15,000, equivalent to just over SEK 140,000. The price depends, among other things, on appearance, you do not seem to come from the Middle East will be more expensive.

This operation must have been planned over time and Swedish relatives should have sent money to bring their daughters home.

According to reports to SVT, the mood among the women in the IS camps is very stated. Many do not think they will come home again. And this is seen as a desperate act to be able to return to Sweden.

Authorities do not want to comment

Swedish authorities should be aware of the incident, according to SVT's information. But there is nothing that the Foreign Ministry's press service can confirm.

- The opportunities for us to get such information confirmed are made more difficult by the fact that we are not present in a conflict area because of the security situation, says Diana Qudhaib at the Foreign Ministry's press service.

Nor does Säpo want to comment on the specific event that SVT has been informed of.

- The only thing we can say is that if or when someone returns from a conflict area, regardless of what it is about, the Security Police will follow up these people. We have routines for it, says Nina Odermalm Schei at Säpo.

At the same time, Nina Odermalm Schei says that Säpo has good contact and cooperation with partners and authorities in other countries.

- We think we have a pretty good picture of what is happening in the conflict area, she says.
