Kelly Craft has just taken on behalf of the United States the presidency of the highest UN body. Her arrival as a replacement for the highly political Nikki Haley as US ambassador left the diplomats perplexed.

Far from symbolizing a distance from the institution that does not appreciate the US President, Kelly Craft seems to have taken his role seriously. No surprise about the unconditional support for Israel or the maximum pressure it wants to maintain on Iran . In terms of finance, she is lining up publicly in Washington, which seeks to reduce the wing at all costs. Yet, she is seen by UN officials as an effective representative, who convinced the United States to pay their contribution while the UN cash is at its lowest.

Kelly Craft, however, struggles to answer the bottom of the files, and is content with simplistic formulas denoting a lack of geopolitical subtlety. Neophyte, annoyed can be also by files that get bogged down year after year, she tries to shake up her counterparts of the Security Council. She reminded them that they are accountable to the rest of the world, and that she will take advantage of this month of presidency to draw up balance sheets and determine where the Council has been effective or not. " The credibility of the UN depends on it, " she says.

If she is not as political as Nikki Haley, Kelly Craft will flare up systematically for human rights issues. She recounted her first trip to South Sudan with almost tears in her eyes. A narrative that was closer to the stories of star godfathers of the UN than the usual UN technical jargon.
