07 December 2019For the first time the "Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) opens, this evening, starting at 18, the season at the Teatro della Scala in Milan. The conductor is Riccardo Chailly, who continues his personal and innovative recognition of the Italian repertoire. Live on Rai 1 from 17.45.

The installation is entrusted to the director Davide Livermore, who after the Scala debut with "Tamerlano" by Handel has already collaborated with Chailly for "Don Pasquale" by Donizetti and "Attila" by Verdi for the inauguration of last season.

With the director the team formed by Giò Forma for the scenes, enriched by the videos of D-wok and illuminated by Antonio Castro, and by Gianluca Falaschi for the costumes. The protagonist on stage is the soprano Anna Netrebko (Floria Tosca), arrived at her fourth December 7th, the tenor Francesco Meli (Mario Cavaradossi) and the baritone Luca Salsi (Baron Scarpia).

"Tosca", presented in the critical edition by Roger Parker for Ricordi, is a focal point of the Puccini project with which Riccardo Chailly reports to Piermarini the works of the Lucca composer in readings that take into account the most up-to-date research.

Started with "Turandot" with the finale of Luciano Berio, the project continued with "La fanciulla del West" with the original orchestration of Puccini, "Madama Butterfly" in the first version (7 December 2016) and "Manon Lescaut" in the first version.

After the inaugurations with "Giovanna d'Arco", "Madama Butterfly", "Andrea Chénier" and "Attila", "Tosca" confirms the commitment of the master Chailly to rediscover the Italian repertoire in its entirety.

This cultural project takes shape over time: alongside Puccini is the deepening of the turning points of the Verdi theatrical journey (Giovanna d'Arco, Attila, Macbeth), of the Belcanto (La gazza ladra by Rossini and Don Pasquale by Donizetti) and Verismo (Andrea Chénier), always with particular attention to the works presented at the Scala for the first time.
