According to the website of the President of Ukraine, the agreement was reached following a telephone conversation on December 7, President Vladimir Zelensky and IMF Head Kristalina Georgieva.

“IMF staff reached an agreement with the authorities regarding the policy underlying the new three-year agreement for the amount of 4 billion special drawing rights (about $ 5.5 billion - RT ) under the expanded financing mechanism,” said Georgieva.

She noted the readiness of the foundation to support the political program of the Ukrainian authorities, the purpose of which is to bring the country's economy onto the path of "higher, sustainable and comprehensive growth."

According to Zelensky, the new program with the IMF is aimed at accelerating economic growth, eradicating corruption and improving the welfare of the population.

Earlier, the IMF announced progress in discussing reforms in Ukraine, which "could form the basis of a new IMF-supported loan program."

However, in November, the head of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine Oksana Markarova announced the intention of the authorities to complete cooperation with the IMF in 2023 and completely switch to self-sufficiency.

Politician, former adviser to ex-president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma Oleg Soskin in an interview with the NSN warned of a possible IMF refusal to finance Kiev.
