The Minister of Agriculture Didier Guillaume announced to the newspaper Sud-Ouest that he will be a candidate for mayor of Biarritz, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, where he will be opposed to another member of the government, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, who is on the outgoing mayor's list.
According to the daily's website, Didier Guillaume will not ask for the inauguration of the presidential party, La Republique en Marche, and will formalize his candidacy in January. "I will be a candidate," he said Friday in the newspaper, which ensures that the former Senator of the Drôme will rely on a list of one hundred local people, engaged or not in politics. "Given the situation, it takes a new breath, I will not do anything new with old," said the future candidate, 60, often present in recent months in Biarritz, where the G7 summit was held in late August.
Against another member of the government
The outgoing mayor of the seaside town, Michel Veunac (MoDem), announced Tuesday that he hoped very soon to be able to "wear the colors" of LREM, strong presence on his list of Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State in Tourism and Foreign Trade and member of the presidential party. According to the latter, his presence alongside Michel Veunac is a "clue" to this investiture to come.
Michel Veunac, 73, had also ironized Tuesday on a possible candidature of Didier Guillaume in front of him and Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, saying: "Leaving to have a minister in Biarritz, it is better to have Tourism than Agriculture ".
