10 December 2018 "I can't breathe": these are the last words pronounced by Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi dissident journalist killed in the Riad consulate in Istanbul by agents from his country. The CNN reports this, citing a source informed about the investigation into the reporter's murder and who read the transcription of the audio containing his last heartbreaking moments of life. According to the source it is clear that the killing was not the unintended consequence of an impromptu abduction attempt but the execution of a premeditated plan to eliminate the journalist.

During the attack, according to the source, Khashoggi is fighting against a group of people determined to kill him. The transcription notes the sounds of the dismemberment with a saw from the reporter's body, while the torturers are advised to listen to music so as not to hear the noises. The text, again according to the same source, suggests that some phone calls are made to inform someone about the outcome of the operation. Turkish investigators believe that the recipients of the calls were senior executives from Riyadh.
