A US soldier opened fire inside Pearl Harbor Air Force Base in Hawaii, killing and wounding several people before committing suicide.
The shooting took place on Wednesday afternoon local time, causing the air base, 13 km from Honolulu, to be closed for some time.
Pearl Harbor said the shooter was a US Navy soldier, adding that the attack killed three people, including the bomber. She had previously said that the soldier wounded three civilian employees of the Ministry of Defense before he shot himself.
Al-Jazeera correspondent Murad Hashim said that the Department of Security and Investigations at the Hawaii air base is seeking to determine the motives of the incident, and the reporter pointed out that the closure of the air base lasted for about an hour and a half.
