There will be more trips on this issue before we reach a decision. The bid of the Moderates and Christian Democrats today at a joint press conference means that the government has another deadline.

By Tuesday, the government should have met the opposition, otherwise there will be a vote of no confidence in Parliament, says Ulf Kristersson's and Ebba Busch Thor's threat.

Another possible way out for Löfven

With this, they have taken the initiative of the Left Party's Jonas Sjöstedt, who was first released two weeks ago with a threat of a declaration of confidence.

At the same time, the Moderates and the Christian Democrats, with both demands, offer a way out of a potential government crisis for Stefan Löfven and the government. The demands of the moderates and the Christian democrats are easier to meet for the government than the absolute demands of the Left Party for a total stop for all privatization.

Ulf Kristersson and Ebba Busch Thor want a "solid control function" before the reform of the Employment Service and that the reform should not be based on the Law of Freedom of Choice.

Prestige than strong ingredient in the game

If the government parties choose to meet these demands, they will crack the unholy resistance alliance in the Riksdag. Without M and KD, there is no majority for a distrust.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has already announced that he is prepared to discuss the issue with the opposition. Liberal Party leader Nyamko Sabuni says he is willing to meet the demands, while Center Party Vice Party leader Anders W Johnsson describes them as "details". All of this clearly signals that the parties behind the January agreement now seem prepared to compromise.

However, if the willingness to compromise is far enough to meet the demands of the opposition, we do not know yet. Thus, it is not obvious that the parties can agree. Prestige is often a strong ingredient in this type of political game. We have already heard how the tone of the pitch has intensified during the day from most parties involved. It could ultimately steal a potential settlement.

Change roles for the party

For parties such as the Moderates and the Left Party, it is also important to appear tough on the government, which is a factor that can also affect the course of this process.

At the same time, there is a bit of a change of roles for several parties in this conflict. Both the Moderates and the Christian Democrats have made themselves known as hot supporters of privatizing public activities. Now they are threatening a minister who does just that with a declaration of disbelief. Moreover, this minister is a social democrat, and a strong opponent of this privatization, but the political settlement of the government forces the Social Democrats to push it through.

For both sides, of course, this means pedagogical difficulties in explaining their actions to voters.

The political tours of the Riksdag around the Employment Service are largely an expression of the new political landscape that has emerged, where the traditional blocs have been replaced by new collaborations, and where the new cooperation parties sometimes have conflicting interests.
