Dubai Municipality has decided to stop providing veterinary therapeutic services and restrict the treatment of animals in the emirate to private clinics.

The municipality said in a circular issued recently, that all therapeutic services have been discontinued, and customers should refer to private veterinary clinics, noting that it will adjust the working hours in the Khawaneej clinic from the fourth of January next, to be from Saturday to Thursday from 8 am to 2 am In the afternoon, the services provided are limited to pet registration and numbering, basic preventive programs for cats and dogs, internal and external parasites, and veterinary health certificates.

Residents demanded not to stop providing veterinary treatment services by the municipality. “This change will make many people, who were going to their pets for treatment in the municipal clinics, leave their animals on the street, because the cost of private veterinary clinics,” said Nevin Ali. "In most cases, they are not exaggerated, and not everyone has the financial capacity to deal with these clinics."

Hala Hinnawi considered that «the decision harms animals, because many owners will not be able to afford the cost of treatment in private clinics».

He asked Abdullah Hosni: «Why do not have the customer only one option is to treat the animal in private clinics, without the option of treatment in government agencies?».

Dubai Municipality has reported that its veterinary clinic in Al Khawaneej has treated 58,627 animals since its opening.

She said in a census issued this year that the figure included 50,000 and 307 farm animals, and 8320 pets, pointing out that there are 10 veterinarians working in the clinic.
