The Prosecutor's Office informed on Tuesday that the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court investigates the deputy of Junts per Catalunya (JxCat) Laura Borràs for the award of irregular contracts when she presided over the Institution of Catalan Lletres (ILC). According to tax sources to EL MUNDO, the Public Prosecutor's Office considers that the Chamber chaired by Judge Manuel Marchena is the one responsible for investigating the independence leader after analyzing the evidence that a judge in Barcelona sent to the Supreme Court.

The head of the Court of Instruction Number 9 of Barcelona, Silvia López, sent a reasoned statement to the High Court last month to assume the investigation considering that Borràs maintains her status as a member of the Permanent Delegation. In the judicial document, Laura de Borràs is accused of "abusing" her duties and awarding finger contracts when she was in charge of ILC between 2013 and 2018 to Isaías Herrero, also investigated in said procedure.

After analyzing the evidence against the regional deputy, the Prosecutor urges the Supreme Court to declare itself competent to open a case against the spokeswoman for Junts Per Catalunya for prevarication, embezzlement, administrative fraud and documentary falsification. Specifically, the prosecutor asks that "the reasoned statement for the purposes of proceeding be admitted for processing, prior concession of the request by the Congress of Deputies or in voluntary appearance, to the statement taken by the said deputy in an investigated condition" .
