Mansion: Commission will seek cooperation with Egypt
"We have a great political work to do, we are starting it, we will surely find the way also to cooperate with the Egyptian Authority and to cooperate in the first place on the political and diplomatic level, which is the task primarily of the parliament". According to Erasmo Palazzotto, the new president of the Commission of inquiry into the death of Giulio Regeni.

"The Commission is starting to work from today, we are already proceeding to do preparatory work to start work as soon as possible and to make up for lost time because the search for truth and justice for the killing of Giulio Regeni must be a priority for this country, "added Palazzotto, president of the Commission, which was established by parliamentary vote last April 30 but not yet operational due to a stalemate for the agreement on the election of the bicameral body guide.

"The idea with which we have come to define this Commission proposal - he adds - is to reconstruct in the first place the historical and political truth about the killing of Giulio Regeni, there is a job that belongs to the judiciary, which we do not want in no case hinder the search for the responsible and the penalty for those responsible is a job that belongs to the judiciary. We have the task of reconstructing the context and the truth about what happened ".

Leu's deputy points out: "We as a commission of inquiry have the same tools as the judiciary and we will use them with care and above all also in coordination with the judiciary because it is not our goal to obstruct the investigations, our goal is to reconstruct a historical truth and also to reconstruct the context in which that barbaric murder took place, recalling firstly that Giulio Regeni is one of the victims of a regime that constantly violates human rights in that country and therefore it is our care to reconstruct even the truth to restore justice to all the Giulio Regeni in Egypt and in the world ".

"Close the works within 12 months"
"We have been working for a few minutes and I have already asked the parliamentary groups to indicate their representatives to convene the Bureau during the week and get the work started as soon as possible. We will schedule the auditions, choose the strands of investigation to which to give priority and we will do it in a work of great sharing because I believe that to shed full light on this matter is first of all interest of the Country and of all political forces and this responsibility has been demonstrated even today in the first session. Our goal is to finish our work as soon as possible and within the 12 month deadline ". Erasmo Palazzotto thus answers to those who ask him what hearings the bicameral body will play.
