The Tunisian Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that 22 people were killed and 21 injured in a horrific traffic accident when a tourist bus overturned in western Tunisia.

The incident took place in the Ain Senousi region of the province of Beja, while the bus was on its way from the capital to the city of Ain Draham in the western province of Jendouba on a tourist trip.

According to the ministry, the bus plunged into Wadi Wadi after crossing an iron barrier and was carrying 43 people.

The ministry pointed out that the number of dead in the initial toll was 22 people and injured 21 others were transferred by civil protection units to the regional hospitals in the province of Beja.
