The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum on Sunday criticized the US giant of online commerce Amazon for the sale of Christmas decorations including images of the former German Nazi concentration camp.

"Selling" Christmas decorations + with images of Auschwitz does not seem appropriate, "the museum said on its Twitter account, posting images of articles with photos of rails and camp barracks.

He asked Amazon to remove them from his catalog.

"Auschwitz on a bottle opener is rather disturbing and disrespectful," the Museum tweeted in English.

He then posted another message saying that apparently Amazon had already removed the products criticized, then a third saying that he has discovered yet others.

He cited among them a computer mouse pad and a ceramic Christmas decoration showing a railway car used to transport the Jews to the gas chambers.

Nazi Germany created this death camp after having occupied Poland at the beginning of the Second World War.

Auschwitz, where more than one million Jews from all over Europe and 100,000 non-Jews have been murdered, has become a symbol of the Holocaust.

Some 232,000 children are among the victims, according to estimates.
