John Kerry, in "war" against the climate crisis. It is now official, the former head of the American diplomacy launched Sunday, December 1, a coalition to fight against climate change.

Supported by personalities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson and Arnold Schwarzenegger, this initiative is launched on the eve of the COP25 opening in Madrid, while Donald Trump's United States is in the process of withdrawing from the Paris agreement.

Called "World War Zero", this initiative brings together political figures from different backgrounds, film stars and the world of song.

Unlikely allies, a common mission

"We are bringing together unlikely allies with a common mission: to push the world to respond to the climate crisis in the same way that we were mobilized to win the Second World War," reads the coalition's website.

Among the political figures who joined the coalition, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Republican governor of California, or John Kasich, former Republican governor of Ohio, but also former Democratic president Bill Clinton and the former -Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

British actress Emma Watson and singer Sting are part of this coalition, as is the American Leonardo DiCaprio.

"No country does the work"

In an effort to defend his initiative on the NBC channel, John Kerry assured that these personalities with diverse political views had a common desire: "to make sure that in America and around the world, people put this issue at the top their priorities ".

"No country does the work" on climate change, said one who was Barack Obama's secretary of state. "We have to treat this as a war," he said.

"We will literally be talking to millions of Americans over the next few months and this will become a major issue," promised this ardent supporter of the fight against climate change.

On November 4, Washington formalized its intention to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, already announced in 2017 by climate-skeptical President Donald Trump.

According to the New York Times, some sixty people support this coalition whose budget is, for now, estimated at $ 500,000.

John Kerry and other members will hold rallies across the United States starting January to discuss this issue.
