At least 14 people have died this morning in an attack on a church in eastern Burkina Faso during Sunday mass, a local police officer confirmed.

The attacker, whose identity is not yet clear, opened fire on parishioners in the temple.

This year, an Islamist insurgency in Burkina Faso has caused ethnic and religious tensions, especially in the northern areas on the border with Mali.
