- We will have a worship service there already next Sunday. We have agreed on this with the property owner, says Niklas Grahn, ward shepherd in the Norrstrand ward in Karlstad.

Switches to regular room

The desecration of the Rud Church tomorrow is a ritual in which it marks the church's transition to being a regular place.

In the past, the Herrhag Church in Karlstad has been decentralized and now it is the turn of the Rud Church. The reason is that the church council decided to cut down on services and premises. Östra Fågelvik's parish hall is also included in the reduction.

Can't control what's happening there

What has been the Rud Church for the past 26 years has been bought up and the new owner has given the Swedish Church permission to rent on Sundays, in order to hold worship.

- We are allowed to rent ourselves in the church and have business there even in the future, although it will not be to the same extent as today. We have an oral agreement on that for the time being, says the Property Manager at Karlstad pastorate, Claes Hellberg.

He has negotiated with Barjaco Group AB, which owns the property where Rudskyrkan is located, and Karlstad municipality, which rents the premises.

- Nothing is written and clear yet, but everyone is very keen that the church still has its business on Rud, says Claes Hellberg.

Children can still be baptized in the Rud Church

When a church is inaugurated, it means that the type of activity that should be in the church is carefully regulated.

- When the church is being decentralized, we do not have the question of what to do in the church during all hours of the day, but we can hire us for certain hours to have, for example, a worship service. We can have baptisms, burials and services anywhere and thus even in a rented room, explains Niklas Grahn.
