Pedro Sánchez, president of the acting Government, accompanied by the Minister of Ecological Transition in operation, Teresa Ribera, visited this Saturday the central pavilion of the seven pavilions of Ifema destined to host the next Climate Summit.

Sánchez and Ribera have traveled to Hall 10 where the main institutional events of the 25 Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) will be held.

Sánchez has not made statements to the press during his visit. In a message posted on his Twitter account, he stressed that this Summit "is key to achieving a more ambitious, fair and inclusive climate action," and thanked those who made it possible.

Sánchez and Ribera have greeted the employees and volunteers who have been working during the month of November so that everything is ready for December. In total, there have been 6,000 workers and 2,000 volunteers who have prepared all the work prior to the Summit.

Specifically, 1,500 employees are those who are finalizing the assemblies of the World Climate Summit (COP 25) this weekend , while 4,000 people will be part of the technical staff, plus 2,000 volunteers a day, as reported by the Government.

On the other hand, there will be more than 200 people working from the General State Administration and Ifema will hire 300 people to provide direct support to the UN organization, with 50 engineers at the Network Coordination Center.

In addition, this morning, Spain has symbolically "handed over" the facilities to the UN . In this protocol act, the acting minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, along with her Chilean counterpart Carolina Schmidt -Chile presides the summit, although it is held in Madrid- and the UN Executive Secretary on Climate Change, Patricia Prickly

All of them have highlighted the need to act forcefully against the climate crisis, and Minister Teresa Ribera has advanced that the success of the summit will not be measured so much by new decisions that can be taken but by the strengthening of the mainstreaming of policies Climate to all areas and sectors.

Safety device

The security device is made up of around 4,000 troops , of which more than half will be national police , as well as civil guards and municipal police . In addition to the reinforcement of agents, other measures such as increased controls on the border with France have been put in place.

There will also be more surveillance at airports , where security forces conduct random inspections of passengers on Schengen flights, the space for free movement of people, and that has been temporarily suppressed as a security measure.

Together with these measures, other anti-terrorism initiatives will be adopted starting next midnight, when Spain will activate level 4 of the anti-terrorism alert in the Community of Madrid.

The reinforcement of level 4 will entail a strengthening of the security devices and of the intelligence, control and anti-terrorist monitoring capabilities of all police forces as a result of the presence in the region of a large number of visitors, among them authorities around the world.

The event is expected to come at some time about 25,000 people from 195 countries , including half a hundred heads of State and Government from around the world, major international organizations, leaders of European institutions, as well as prime ministers.
