Several people were injured on Friday after a stabbing attack on the famous London Bridge in the center of the British capital and one person was arrested, police said.

London police said they treated the incident as "terrorism-related" as a "precautionary measure" while confirming that they had shot a man in the context of the incident.

London police said they had received a report of a stabbing attack at 1358 GMT in the area near the London Bridge, which witnessed a terrorist attack in June 2017 that killed eight people.
"One man was arrested," police said. "We believe a number of people were injured."

"I am being informed of the latest developments related to the incident at the London Bridge and I want to thank the police and all emergency services for their immediate response," said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Home Secretary Pretty Patel expressed her “grave concern” about recent developments in the British capital.

The BBC correspondent, who was at the scene at the time of the incident, said he saw what appeared to be a fight between a group of men and then heard two shots and saw someone forced to lie down.

The incident took place on the north side of the bridge where people were deported quickly, according to pictures on social media.

The London ambulance service confirmed that his teams had arrived at the site and announced a "major incident".

The BBC witness said she and others at the scene rushed to a restaurant on the bridge, where staff advised her to take cover. "Under the table, there was shooting," she said.

The London Bridge station, south of the bridge, was evacuated, according to British transport police, while a barrier was set up around Borough Market.

A video posted on Twitter showed a bus showing what appeared to be two armed police officers pointing their guns at a man on the ground.

Other photos posted by another user on the site showed the same scene.
