After a two-year spell at road events, British star Mo Farah, four-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion (5,000 and 10,000m), announced Friday his return to the track and the 10,000m for the 2020 season in the optics of the Tokyo Olympics.

"The big news is that I'm back on track, on the 10,000m in Tokyo next year," said the 36-year-old Somali-born rider in a video posted on YouTube. not having lost my speed but I'm going to train hard for that and we'll see what I can do. "

After a final world title in 2017 in London over 10,000m, Farah had decided to focus exclusively on road races. In particular, he won the Chicago Marathon in 2018 with a European record in 2 h 05 min 11 sec. He however remained very far from the "king" Eliud Kipchoge, author of a dazzling world record in Berlin the same year (2 h 01 min 39 sec).

The announcement came a day after the British Athletics Federation (UKA) opened an independent inquiry into Alberto Salazar, his former coach from 2011 to 2017, suspended in late September four years for "incitement" to doping by the American anti-doping agency (Usada).

"As I said before, there are no charges against me, I have not done anything wrong, the accusations, let me be clear, only concern Alberto Salazar," said Mo Farah in October about of his ex-coach.
