According to Save the Children, there is now - after Turkey's entry into the area - a time window, an opportunity to take home the Swedish citizens before the situation in the area deteriorates again.

-We know that sooner or later this door will be closed. Sooner or later, Syrian forces will probably march into the area. That is why we are appealing to Sweden to bring these children home now while it goes, Jeremy Stoner tells SVT News.

Children of IS sympathizers live in difficult conditions

In northern Syria, there are many children of IS sympathizers, who live in camps under difficult conditions. Some are orphans, others are with their mothers. Several of the children are Swedish or have a Swedish connection. The Kurdish authorities, which have so far been responsible for the camps, have appealed to various countries to bring their citizens home.

In April this year, seven children of the well-known IS terrorist Mikael Skråmo had to come to Sweden, after both their Swedish parents had died, and after they had been very ill in the camps. But there are other Swedish children left in the camps.

Head of Save the Children: "Why not Sweden?"

Jeremy Stoner, the Middle East chief of Save the Children, recently visited Sweden and the Foreign Ministry to convince the government to do something - now.

-I was met by a lot of good will, but was also told that the matter is complicated. I often meet that argument. But this is not at all impossible. There has never been a better opportunity than now and it has been done before, by countries like Trinidad, for example. So why not Sweden ?, says Stoner.
